Herbal Saunas

Herbal Saunas - The Earth Alchemy of Fire, Water, Trees & Herbs

Ruth Weaver also offers Plant Medicine Journeys, in which she facilitates a deep immersion into the medicinal properties of plants. Drawing upon years of experience integrating sensory experiences into her practice and workshops, Ruth’s plant medicine journeys establish a deep connection with the medicinal, psychosomatic and spiritual uses of the plant.

Herbal saunas are usually shared with a group of 7 to 13 people. The herb explored during the session will be specially chosen for its therapeutic synergy with sauna. We start with a herb tasting to immerse ourselves with the energetics of the plant.

Following the study we enter the sauna infused with herbal elements. This usually includes fresh herbs, essential oil steams, hydrolats, herbal tea, body scrubs and whisks to support relaxation, detoxification, and integration.

Many sauna traditions are deeply interwoven with botanical practices for ritual and healing - such as the tradition of using whisks. Whisks are usually made with bundles of leafy tree branches, most commonly birch, but also oak, eucalyptus, or other aromatic trees. They are soaked in water and used within sauna rituals for their unique healing benefits.

For upcoming sauna dates see ‘Events’.

Plant Medicine Journeys

Ruth is currently collaborating with Somatic Psychotherapist and Shamanic practitioner Maria Stay, on a four part series of ‘Our Journey in to Plant Medicine Workshops’. Each workshop offers learning, somatic experiences and moving and journeying with a native medicinal plant. Ruth and Maria weave together teachings from the medicinal and shamanic disciplines to offer a deep connection with the medicinal, psychosomatic and spiritual uses of the plant whilst creating a unique platform to explore what insights this plant holds for your individual physiology.

“We will venture through different uses and applications of the medicine, both current and historical and how you can integrate it in to your medicinal tool box”

“Breath, movement and proprioceptive practices will move us towards the mythical and ritual felt sense of this plant before delving in to a shamanic journey to discover how we can both support and be supported by this medicine”

Workshops and talks can be booked privately by small or large groups, families or companies or for your retreat and events.
